The week of my birthday was so special! Not only did my whole family come up to Norman (my college town) to celebrate my birthday, but also my baptism! My faith is the foundation of my life and is so important to me, so I’m so happy to share a little bit of my testimony and how I found my church!
Summer of my senior year I got a feeling in my heart to dig deep into my faith. I started to wonder “who is God?” and “how is God present in my life?” I prayed and asked God to show me that he was in my life, and started reading a devotional called Jesus Calling (you should read it). Throughout the Summer I was reading it, every page I read felt like it was a message meant just for me, I knew that was God speaking to me. After a few weeks of reading the devotional and looking up scriptures, I got on my knees in my bedroom and prayed for Jesus Christ to come into my heart. And the rest is history! I made my faith my own, and started walking through life with Jesus!
How I found my Church
Freshman year of college a girl who I lived in the dorms with invited me to her church (shout out to Shelby!). I ended up going with her a few more times throughout the year, but not consistently. Fast forward to Spring semester of my sophomore year, I made a goal to be more committed to my faith in 2019 (go to church, be more in the word, find a Bible study). A couple days after winter break, I was passing out food on campus (with an organization I am a part of), and I ran into the college minister of the same church I went to freshman year! That night (during another event with my organization), I met his wife who invited me to a Wednesday night Bible study! I went to that Bible study that Wednesday, and actually saw some of my friends there, and even started going back to church some Sundays.
Why I joined my Church
One Sunday I went to church, we were listening to a sermon about how to be a good neighbor (it was so good!). The pastor said (I’m paraphrasing), “The world DOESN’T need more religious people who go to church on Sundays and know all the rules of the Bible, but when their neighbor needs help, they just walk on by.” This struck me so deeply! I had just been thinking about how to pour into the people in my life and how to treat everyone the way Jesus would, and this was right on the money! After hearing this, I knew that this was the church for me! As this would be my first official “church home” (meaning church I am a member of), I felt like it was the perfect time and place for me to get baptized!
I hope you enjoyed a more personal story about me! If you have any questions, or just want someone to talk to about Jesus please fill out the contact form (here)! I would love to hear from you!
