Finals week is upon us college kids, and more often than not, that means late nights, studying until you’re cross-eyed, and unfortunately stress. Not to mention, holiday shopping and getting ready to head home can cause some feelings of anxiety for some. To help you (and myself) deal with the stressfulness of this season, I made a list of some of my favorite ways to destress.
I like to listen to music based on my mood. Sometimes I’m jamming to an upbeat pop song and loving life; other times, I’m listing to the Spotify “Life Sucks” playlist. But when I’m dealing with some feelings of stress and anxiety, I make a conscious effort to listen to relaxing music. Right now, I’m loving the Hawaiian Summer Café Music album and the Hawaiian Morning Relaxing Guitar album. These albums make me feel so much calmer when I’m stressed.
Exercising or Stretching
When I have lots of things on my mind, I can’t just sit and wallow in the stress, I need to get up and move! When I’m feeling overwhelmed and like I can’t get my mind off of worrisome thoughts, I try and go for a run or stretch.
Watercolor Painting or Doodling
Doing something creative is so therapeutic. I love to doodle mindlessly, do some water coloring, or even color a coloring book when I’m struggling with stress.
When in doubt, nap it out! Sometimes all you need is a quick refresh, and a nap is excellent for that. Even just taking 30 mins to lie down and shut your eyes is really effective.
Day of Nothing
When it seems as though the world is beating you down and tasks just seem to keep piling up, you just need to rest! Sometimes I plan a day (usually a Saturday) where I clear my schedule, sleep in and just stay home and do absolutely nothing.
Above all else, I try to remember to pray and leave all my worries with God. I also try to remember that no grade, degree, job, or person’s opinion is worth degrading my mental health. I hope you guys use some of these ideas to destress. Happy finals!
